If you're relying on daily meds just to get through the day, you're not alone. It's estimated that 8 million Canadians (1 in 5) are living with daily pain.
When people come into my clinic, they’re usually dealing with one of two situations.
Either they’ve got a recent acute injury like a sprain or strain from sports or just moving about in an aging body (ya feel, me?) or they’ve been living with chronic, persistent pain for months, years, or even decades.
Most folks start off taking over-the-counter options like ibuprofen or acetaminophen. Some take muscle relaxants like methocarbamol, or rely on prescription drugs like gabapentin, pregabalin, and corticosteroids (orally or by injection).
Rarely do I see patients taking narcotics which is surprising since 600,000 Canadians have narcotic prescriptions.
Beyond direct pain meds, people are often taking sleeping pills because the pain keeps them awake, anti-nausea meds, or migraine treatments.
And I would be remiss if I didn't include socially acceptable options like alcohol, cannabis, and CBD oil. Many people vape, smoke, or take CBD simply because it's the only thing taking the edge off.
So, can neural injections actually replace all those pain medications? The short answer is yes. It's completely realistic to get off pain meds, even if you've been on them for years.
In my practice, I combine two powerful modalities: (neural therapy and biopuncture) into an approach we call "pain recovery" or "musculoskeletal repair" injections.
They work together to address pain at the source rather than just masking symptoms.
Neural Therapy: This involves injecting lidocaine, a topical anesthetic, into the top layers of the skin right above the pain zone. It numbs the area for immediate relief within 5 to 10 minutes, but something much deeper is happening underneath. The pain signal gets blocked from the periphery to the central nervous system. Because the brain is neuroplastic, it's constantly adapting based on the signals it receives. The lidocaine gives your brain a reprieve from those constant alert signals, allowing it time to rest, reset, and rewire it away from perpetual pain mode. This bodes well for your progress. We likey.
Biopuncture: I use natural, sterile remedies to improve circulation, delivering fresh oxygen and nutrients directly to the affected tissues. At the same time, it helps flush away cellular waste products and inflammation. Better circulation and increased waste clearance always lead to better function and faster healing. Always.
I believe our bodies know how to heal, they want to, and they can. When we introduce these types of remedies that work to nutrify and detoxify at the cellular level we put the proper circumstances in place for our bodies to become wellness prone.
Nothing makes me happier than when a patient comes in for their weekly check-in and tells me they didn't need to take a single Advil all week.
A while back, a patient came to me after being injured in a motor vehicle accident 15 years prior. She was going through a regular rotation of appointments with only temporary relief, and she found herself taking more and more ibuprofen—eventually burning through a whole bottle every few days.
She had a sneaking suspicion that her body couldn't handle that forever. The turning point came when she noticed blood in her stool. The NSAIDs were causing active bleeding in her lower gut. Luckily, her colonoscopy came back clear of cancer, but it was a massive wake-up call that she needed a different path.
We started her on our pain recovery injections. After her second treatment, she came into her third appointment beaming because she hadn't taken a single NSAID since her last visit.
She went from needing pills every 4 to 6 hours to needing none at all. We completed two more sessions to ensure her body remembered how to stay in that healed state, and the only time I've seen her since was a quick follow-up for an unrelated ankle sprain that resolved right away after one treatment.
While medications can serve a temporary purpose, relying on them long-term carries heavy risks:
Acetaminophen: Longstanding doses place heavy stress and toxicity risks on your liver.
NSAIDs (Ibuprofen, Naproxen): They damage the gut lining, causing ulcers, internal bleeding, and iron deficiency.
Narcotics: They carry high risks of dependency, severe constipation, and central nervous system depression.
Corticosteroids: They suppress your immune system and disrupt major hormones including thyroid, insulin, reproductive hormones, and melatonin, often causing unwanted weight gain.
Gabapentin & Pregabalin: Patients frequently report feeling groggy, foggy, and detached throughout the day.
Conversely, neural injection risks are minimal. You might experience a tiny bit of temporary bruising or a quick pinch that lasts just seconds during the treatment. Side effects are rare and usually limited to a brief, mild aggravation of the tissue right before the natural healing process kicks in.
For some reason health and taking care of ourselves is voluntary. (Not my value system but generally, I mean based on observation in practice for the last 2 decades. What I'm getting at is people choose to come to see me because they've typically been refereed by a friend or family member who got their life back.
As you wonder whether this will work for you, I'm wondering, "Is what you're currently doing working?"
If it is, that's wonderful! Yay! Keep going.
But if it isn't, are you willing to consider that there's another option for healing? Of course, as most things, you won't know unless you try.
If you're nervous about needles, know that most patients tells me, "Oh! That wasn't as bad as I thought it'd be!"
If you're mildly anxious, we've got helpful relaxation strategies we can practice together to keep your nervous system in rest and digest mode and to make sure you feel totally comfortable and supported every step of the way.
If you're really anxious maybe this isn't the best strategy for you.
Remember: your body wants to heal, and these musculoskeletal repair injections can give it the right environment to start.

My clients are people stuck in their health or lives with burnout, insomnia , anxiety, or stress. After working with me they can calm their minds, sleep deeply, and find joy and energy again - all with out talk therapy or medications.
