Why You're Not Taking Care Of Yourself

My favorite way of working with people is actually about changing their habits and doing that in a way that’s sustainable and easy.

I do that by helping people change and reprogram:

  • unconscious mind

  • what their unconscious mind believes

  • how it filters their ability to take care of themselves.

I’ve been in naturopathic practice for 15 years and a few years back I was finding myself very dissatisfied in my practice because patients would come back to me and say, “Eating my broccoli is hard.”

Now, you and I both know that eating broccoli is not hard. It’s probably one of the easiest foods to eat once it’s cooked.

I Was So Fascinated By This.

“Eating broccoli,” by the way is a metaphor for whatever the thing is that you need or WANT to be doing to taking care of yourself. That could be literally eating the broccoli, or it could be getting exercise, adequate and restorative rest, setting the boundaries, following your heart, _____ fill in your response here ____, could it not?

Why do people have so much trouble taking care of themselves?

I became fascinated (who’s kidding who, obsessed) with that moment that we decide to show up to take care of ourselves every day, doing what’s best for ourselves.

This moment in human psychology is so exciting for me.

I Started Looking For A Tool That Would Help Me Help People Unlock That Block To Self-Care.

I explored spiritual systems and support structures and even created a program called the Path to Peace to help people understand themselves at soul level in an attempt to encourage self care.

Interestingly, what I found with that work was that it was still too conscious.

It was too intellectual, and involved too much thinking. Most people don’t know that all change, learning, healing and habits happen at the level of the unconscious mind. This work didn’t get to that place.

The Awareness Of One’s Spiritual Path, Wasn’t Enough For Them To Be On The Path. Darn.

I kept seeking, always looking for the most resourceful and perfect solution. And by golly I’ve found it in a surprising place! ??⭐


When I signed up for the Neuro-Linguistic Programming practitioner course I thought it would just help me become a better marketer.

My thought process was, “I’ll just help people understand how they can benefit from my offerings and therefore bingo, bango, bongo, they will opt into the offerings.”

I didn’t realize that I was going to fall in love with the actual practice of this work. It has the potential and power to transform how we see the world, how we see ourselves, and how we see ourselves in the world.

Maybe It’s Hard To “Eat The Broccoli” Because The Block To Self-Care Is Actually A Belief About Worth, Value, Or Deserving.
